Like the other four pieces in a series produced in 1952, Nu bleu II returns to a pose - arms crossed behind the back of the neck, leg bent in front of the torso - often used by Matisse both in painting (Nu assis, Olga, Seated Nude, Olga, 1910) and in sculpture (Nu couché, Reclining Nude, 1907; Vénus à la coquille, Venus with Seashell, 1930-51). 44 × 54 cm I absolutely adore this print and I now go to sleep beneath the plain tree every night
